Meet Nitil Bhardwaj, a revolutionary resident of West Bihar, who decided he would generate lucrative employment opportunities, for himself and fellow village residents, is truly showing India that one can be successful at anything they set their mind to.

Bhardwaj had taken a computer science course which allowed him to greatly expand his knowledge and portfolio. He could apply for a myriad of positions of employment and earn an income which would allow him to live comfortably. However, while the job was able to keep him comfortable, he was unhappy. It was a tedious task and it overworked him.

In 2017, his father told him about the process of pelting pearls. Nitil was hooked to this intriguing process! After researching more, he learned the basics of pearl pelting and the requirements which persuaded him more and more to pursue it. In consultation with his parents, he decided to quit his job at the multinational firm as he’d set his heart on pearl farming. He thought this was a unique opportunity and doing something different was more down his lane.

To begin with, he had an acre of land upon which he dug a pond with the help of government officials. Once it was the desired length and breadth, he bought 500 oysters which he let go into the pond. He disclosed that just from these 500 oysters, he earned profits over 75,000 rupees. He was glad to see his business skyrocket. The following year he bought 25,000 oysters and fish which lead him to amass a sum worth a few lakhs in profit. He says to the Indian Newsexpress, “If done sincerely, one can easily make profits ranging from 30-36 lakh from this business”.

In this process, he first buys a certain amount of oysters according to the space he has in his pond. He ties them in a net and keeps them submerged in water for a period of time of 10-15 days. After this time, he takes them out of the net to put a particle in them which allows the oysters to make glittering, shiny and magnificent pearls. To increase his profits, Bhardwaj decided to keep fish along with the  oysters. He needs to be very careful to ensure that his fish and oysters, all are leading a healthy lifestyle.

In an interview with a local newspaper, he confessed he was very sad to see people lose their jobs due to the COVID-19 crisis. He saw people leave cities and return to villages due to loss of employment. Hence, he offered free classes to the youths of his area to generate employment. Afterwards, he even gave them positions to work at his firm. He says he’s very happy to have contributed to people’s lives positively and have a job he adores and is proud of.
