Lack of access to an enabling environment in rural areas makes it difficult for students from socioeconomically poor backgrounds to realize their dreams. Along with MPSC and UPSC dreams, a major section of the rural youths pursue their dreams of govt. services in Police, Army, Post office, Banking sector, for which there are competitive exams. Usually these exams test cognitive and physical abilities. ‘VivekDisha’ is an initiative to help these needy rural youths to realize their dream through following interventions:

–   VivekDisha Study Hall: To create access to a study hall irrespective of students’ capacity to pay and creating enabling environment where students can study

–   VivekDisha Library: To make books, magazines related to competitive exams available free of cost at village level so that needy students can be benefited

–   VivekDisha Lectures: Invite youth members who have recently selected in Army, Police and other sectors from the same geography to provide context specific inputs to students

Established with the aim to extend Swami Vivekananda’s vision, towards educating, motivating youth for nation building, the VivekDisha study hall & library was formally inaugurated on 19th February 2021 on the occasion of Shri Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.

VivekDisha study hall is a small facility which can accommodate 20 students at a time. It is located right in the middle of the village – Wanewadi (90 Kms from Pune, Maharashtra).

Who are the beneficiaries?

Mainly, students from families of labourers, small scale farmers, sugarcane workers make use of this facility as they struggle to have an enabling environment, physical infrastructure at home to study. Students are oriented to manage day to day operations including daily cleaning of the facility, books’ exchange with each other, maintenance etc. It is a students’ facility in true sense!

What way you can support VivekDisha?

The founder has managed to have basic physical infrastructure in place. Since VivekDisha is a ‘Not for Profit’ initiative, there is no source of funds to make facility better equipped to students’ following needs:

1.   Need to have a books-rack along with a glass door & lock (Tentative cost 6,000 INR)

2.   Need to have a locker with 20 individual sections (Tentative cost is around 15,000 INR)

3.   Need to purchase books, magazines related to competitive exams (Tentative cost 5,000 INR)

4   Need to install a CCTV camera for security & monitoring purpose (Tentative cost 8,000 INR)

5   Need a water filter (Tentative cost is 6,000/- for a basic UV filter)

This is a funds’ raising appeal to raise at least 40,000/-INR to get students’ owned and operated VivekDisha study hall & library better equipped. So far, 30 students have been directly benefited in past few months. Once the facility is better equipped, every year it will potentially benefit at least 50 students from needy families in and around the village, for the next several years.

(NOTE: VivekDisha is an initiative at the moment & not a formally registered organization/ NGO. We are open to all modalities of support: Funds/ Direct vendor payment/ Physical donation of asset/s – New or reusable )
