Salman Qadri, a man who encompasses a desire to work for humanity and society, started his journey when he was just 17 years old. On getting further encouragement from his family, he got his organization registered with the name ‘Sahuliyat Kashmir’. He and his team members provide all kinds of help to the needy.
Their organization has always had a motto to provide free and quality education to underprivileged children; providing healthcare facilities for child development. Since last 8 years they have been present in Kashmir where they provided 500+ healthcare kits, oxygen concentrators & medicines which led to benefit 3000+ families. In the Covid-19 pandemic, they have provided food and essential healthcare facilities to 300 families living in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi through local volunteers.
In their next 5 year plan, they mentioned that they are planning to provide 24/7 ambulance services to pregnant women in case of emergency in the Jammu and Kashmir area. They are also planning to setup a Multi Specialty Hospital where they aim to provide facilities at nominal fees. Apart from that, they are talking about purchasing a graveyard for burrying unidentified bodies who died due to accidents.
They faced struggles in launching campaigns due to their size. They shared, being a relatively small NGO, no matter how beneficial the cause, faces issues in launching campaigns, gathering support, collecting finances etc; which isn’t really the ideal way to function. They face all these difficulties because of the disturbed situations in the Valley as they should not obtain CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Fund from corporate houses on time. They hope to combat this issue to welcome new NGOs into our world. Further, they also mentioned that instead of receiving support from Central/ State Governments or local leaders, they did not get any appreciation for the same.
Even after all these difficulties, they didn’t move backwards instead they worked hard. They got support from their familiy, locals and Kashmiris residing in other parts of our country. Additionally, they shared that whenever they appealed through their social media platforms regarding any help (financially or volunteering) they always received positive response.
At the end, they request the public to give support and love to small NGOs. They said that they are happy to work with their small family of 30 members and welcome others who want to connect with them. They would do the same work with more dediction and enthusiasm in the near future. They have also provided 24×7 helpline number (+917006975843) where an individual can contact in case of emergency.
They further welcomed and thanked the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Research Foundation for their ‘Wall of Change’ initiative where common people can get to know the unheard stories of small NGOs and individuals who have done tremendous work and contributed towards the welfare of society.
