The Babul NGO is a registered non-profit organisation. While it has hosted several film festivals in the past annually, this year it has shifted its focus to help the selfless COVID helpers and they spread awareness for the same. Now, their primary mission is of COVID relief and finding and verifying oxygen leads to provide the contacts of oxygen suppliers for patients to obtain oxygen cylinders, etc.

Their hardworking volunteers work day and night, looking for leads and verifying them while formatting aesthetically pleasing posts to out on social media to maximise the information spread. The process remains simple. Their organisation is divided into several teams serving a definite purpose. The data entry team finds potential oxygen leads which are verified by the verifiers and fed into an excel data spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is referred to by all the designers who have been designed states respectively. The designers take the verified leads and feed it into the template. The social awareness team ensures the posts are well-made, posted on a myriad of social media websites and help it receive a huge number of view (i.e. make it viral).

To entirely promote their current  mission of spreading awareness about the Covid-19 scenario in our country, the film society hopes to do the same via the medium of short videos.

Their secondary mission is to spread awareness about the environment, biodiversity and of sustainable development by using modern methods such as making short documentaries, social media apart from thr traditional advocacy methods. The adore using cinema for outreach. They also aim to educate people about the country’s current situation.

A volunteer from the organisation, Samira Dhawan, spoke to us about her personal experience at the organisation. She said “It’s amazing being a volunteer here, seeing how an NGO runs, learning about things I never knew about. Gangadhar Pandey (the brains of this operation) sir is a great inspiration to all of us, his kind and passionate words continually inspire us and I really do look up to him. We have a great team here; I’ve made some great friends and I love spending my time this way. Even though this was a short internship, I want to continue for as long as I can for this is such a wonderful cause.”

Have been a volunteer myself, I cannot help but whole heartedly agree with her. It was truly a wonderful and enriching experience, to witness the youth of India stand up and help its country in such difficult times.
